CHESTER COUNTY PEACE LEADER ADMITS – “I AM A CARD-CARRYING SOCIALIST”

Filed under: Insurgents at home — Rich Davis @ 3:31 pm

Earlier this month Karen Porter, the head of the Chester County Peace Movement, wrote a newsletter to her readers where she proudly admits, “I am a socialist and damn proud of it.”

Porter and her group (Chester County Peace Movement) have been coming to the courthouse corner in West Chester every Saturday for the past 7 years.  They stand on the other side of the street from us.

After all these years and much publicity in the local paper, she finally decided to reveal that she is a socialist.

Her letter speaks for itself.  Here it is in it’s entirety:

Subject: Proud to be a card-carrying socialist. Ya got a problem with that?
To: peace@lists.wayreth.net

Note to local right-wing-nuts: I’m told that you copy and paste my e-mails into your websites (I don’t have time to look). I hope you’ll copy and paste this e-mail and send it far and wide – because I want to stand up right now and say I’m a socialist, and I invite your readers to join me! I want your youth in particular to see there’s a voice of reason in this wilderness? – and the more you distribute my writing, the more folks will see it. And some of them, trust me, will wake up.–Karen Porter

Recently the words, “socialism” and socialist” have been vilified by the right-wing fanatics to the point that I can’t just sit back and listen to this any more without speaking up and standing up:

I’m a socialist and damned proud of it. A card-carrying socialist. So you can yell “socialist” all you want at me, and I’ll hold my head even higher. It’s time for all of us socialists to stand up, speak out, be counted…and to grow a pair.

My Social Security card was my first socialist membership card.

I haven’t yet earned my Medicare socialist card yet, but it’s coming soon – and I’ll be damned proud to carry it.

I have been a lifelong Christian, and my religion makes me a socialist because Jesus Christ was one of the greatest socialists of all time. (He would deplore capitalism, which stands for everything He was against.) So I was born a socialist when I was born a Christian. I couldn’t have been anything else.

I confirmed my socialism when I got my Social Security card, and my renewed commitment comes up with the Medicare card.

Aside from being born into socialism and appreciating it, I also renewed my socialist vows when I read Michael Harrington’s (another socialist) The Other America when I was 18. I didn’t realize that I was part of that “other” America (in Appalachia) till then – and I also didn’t realize what scum the other “other America” was – those blood-sucking capitalist pigs.  I realized then that my answer to “What would Jesus do?” was that he would fight the people sucking the life out of the rest of us – the military industrial complex.

I simply do not believe in unbridled capitalism. Never have, never will. Since Reagan’s 1980s selfish-fest, this country has been on a downward slide into a very sick, cannibalistic form of capitalism that is eating us all alive – and I refuse to be part of it by saying nothing about it.

I believe that small businesses are a good thing – so I guess that means I favor a “mixed” economic system. The kind that creates unparalleled happiness in places such as Norway. But I also believe in strong controls that keep small and medium-sized businesses from getting out of control and sucking the life out of the rest of us – which is the situation we have in this country today. So I believe in much stronger government regulation of business than we have now. Corporations are raping us all and throwing our mangled bodies in a ditch.

I prefer that our country be controlled by people I elect rather than by corporate boards that I have no say about.

I also prefer that our counry be controlled by people we the people can fire rather than corporate chieftains that we have no say about.

I also prefer that our country follow the Constitution as it was written, not as some people wish it would be.

I appreciate our country’s socialist workers’ compensation system that protects us all.

I appreciate our socialist unions that protect workers’ rights.

I appreciate our socialist worker safety system.

I appreciate our socialist healthcare systems (Medicare, Medicaid, veterans’ healthcare, Social Security disability, to name a few).

I appreciate our socialist system of making sure my food, water, air, transportation, and medicines are safe.

I appreciate our socialist public education systems.

I appreciate our socialist subsidies for farmers.

I appreciate our socialist system of guarding against discrimination on the job, in housing, in education, and in many other facets of life.

I appreciate all our other socialist systems that corporate moguls can’t take away from us.

I appreciate all these socialist systems because WE THE PEOPLE control them – not greedy pigs on corporate boards and in corporate offices over whom we have absolutely no say whatsoever.

Ya got a problem with that?

Tough.

Note: I repeat -right-wing-nuts, please copy and paste this e-mail and send it far and wide – because I want to stand up right now and say I’m a socialist, and I invite your readers to join me! I want your youth in particularto see there’s a voice of reasonin this wilderness – and the more you distribute my writing, the more folks will see it. And some of them, trust me, will wake up.–Karen Porter

Note to Karen – If you don’t like America, why don’t you move?  There are plenty of socialist countries to choose from. North Korea, Syria, Venezuela, China, Cuba – take your pick.  Nothing is stopping you. I’ll even take up a collection for you.  I’m sure they would welcome a peacemaker like you with open arms.

  1. So Karen says she hates capitalism – while she feeds off of its plenty (ala Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security, etc.) She reminds me of that British putdown of an aristocratic socialist – “He extolled the virtues of denial while never depriving himself of his Sunday chop.”

I would think more highly of Karen’s self-righteous rant against capitalism were it not delivered in the arms of plenty but instead in the barren wasteland of those socialist paradises she extols – North Korea and Cuba.

I personally will pay the ticket (one-way, of course) to transport Karen to those misty isles she raptures about yet refuses to dip her toe into.

I assure you that her loathing of capitalism will last exactly one day until her food supply and the toilet paper run out. At that point, Karen will be using her hot air to blow desperately at the sails of the boat taking her as fast as possible away from the socialist ‘paradises’ she waxes so eloquent about.

  4. It is reasonable to assume, that Karen would never accept money from friends or family, if offered it? If one were to offer her $$, she could easily say no? She is making tracks for money right now, and in time, I/we shall find out, that money is very important to her.
Her rants are born from her life of failure. Failed marriage, failed profession, failed life. This is a compensatory mechanism, that her pride dictates her to do. When one fails, one must blame. She looks at success, happiness all around her, and she cannot handle it. She was never able to acheive it. When she observes happiness in others, it just slaps her in the face.
If we were to believe her claim of Christianity-I would honestly say that she is a poor representative of it. Hate, scorn, name calling, cursing is not Christianity. She can’t even muster the talk, much less walk the walk.
I will still pray for her, she is sad.
She, and those of her ilk, will never leave America. Because, deep down inside, they know that America is the best country in the world. They are walking, talking hypocrites. She is a child that cries for attention, be it good or bad. She is like an abused child.

  5. oops, I stand corrected, “cursing is not Christian”
    “claim of being Christian”

  6. She appreciates the “socialist” education program? While sending her offspring to nothing but private schools? Huh? Hypocrite

  7. Hey Karen, I have $5,000 dollars to give you, no strings attached. Could you say no? No way. You would take it and run. We will see you do this in the near future.
Your hypocrisy is totally nauseating. Those of us who really know you-are sick of you. We have had your little number for years. You would do anything for money.
Should I divulge what I know about you? The “you” that you aren’t writing about? The you that is investing token amounts of your time, for money for your pathetic future?
Keep writing Karen…………Your life will be unfolded before everyone’s eyes. Keep it up. You are showing yourself as a fool.

  8. Why do all these socialist look like the Cindy Sheehan?? Just sayin’… :)

    Comment by Michele — September 25, 2009 @ 2:36 pm

  9. Because they have always been misfits/losers in profession, success, behavior, personal and social integration-they begin to morph into the look of Karen Porter, Cindy Sheehan. Personal hygiene is not important to them. Pride in self is not important. Healthy life style is by the wayside, weight is not important. To care about what they look like, is most unimportant. Hence, they never achieve respect, personal relationships. They become loners, with nothing else to do- or noone to care about. In short, they don’t have a life.
It is the only way they can get noticed, be it in a bad or good way.

  10. RE: Karen Porter – Feedback Is The Breakfast Of Champions

Feelings aren’t based on facts. Socialism is long on feelings and short on facts. Our second president, John Adams, said it nicely: ” Facts are stubborn things; and whatever may be our wishes, our inclinations, or the dictates of our passions, they cannot alter the state of facts and evidence “. Socialism never works because it suffocates and strangles winning. Socialists dislike facts because facts interfere with and then contradict their unprovable feelings.

Socialists resist and likely resent competition because competition means that someone wins and someone loses. Socialists can’t bear the thought of losing because they fear it. In the main, most avowed socialists never won or done anything of value – added significance in their entire lives. Socialism is about showing unbending reverence and respect for the misery loves company agenda of collectivist losing. Everybody has to feel bad. Losers love to drag down the winners. Losers hate winners because winners make the losers look bad by visible comparison. Losing is grounded in either lameness or laziness. Both of these maladies are the nutrients of socialism. And both of these maladies are cured by the purified results oriented fortifications of capitalism.

Socialists are repelled by those: who sacrifice for their ambition; who delay gratification; who scorn delight; and who work laborious days because socialists lack the courage, character and competency to behave likewise. Socialists delight in frolicking around the collectivist camp fire roasting marshmallows provided of course that the state ( who siphons money from the givers and the doers to give it to the fakers and the takers ) cuts the wood ; builds the fire; and purchases the marshmallows. Socialists think the world owes them a living at somebody else’s expense. But like Margaret Thatcher so correctly stated: ” The problem with socialism is that eventually you run out of other peoples money “.

Many socialists behave like imps who when sprinkled and then scorched with factual holy water apoplectically run out into the illuminating light of day for further scalding. As far as Christianity is concerned… Jesus Christ said: ” If you love me keep my commandments “. There are ten commandments two of which ( 20% ) deal with the sin of socialism! The seventh commandment says: ” Thou shalt not steal “. The punitive, vindictive and exorbitant U. S. federal tax code is the most sinister and heinous form of theft ever known to man. The top 1% of tax filers – who earn 24% of the income – are coerced into paying 40% of the taxes while the bottom 50% of the tax filers – who earn 12 % of the income – pay only a measly 2% of the taxes and even more incredibly receive rebates on taxes they never paid at the end of each year. What is their incentive to become self – sufficient and independent? The tenth commandment says: ” Thou shalt not covet thy neighbors goods “. Envy, jealousy and redistribution are grave sins. If you did not earn it by the sweet of your brow , you have absolutely no right to it. But you do have the right to go out and earn on your own just like everybody else. The ultimate purity of capitalism is that poverty is a choice not a condition. If you want more, you must become more!

The United States of America was founded on the Declaration of Independence FROM government NOT on the Declaration of Dependence ON government. Love means giving yourself willingly to another. Love is not pampering, coddling or appeasing. Those reliances are forms of laziness not love. True love is encouraging, expecting, and educating individuals to seek, secure, and keep self-sufficiency and independence. Every individual; every family; every street; every neighborhood; every community; every township; every city; every county; and every state has not only the right to self-sufficiency and independence but even more importantly the responsibility to seek, secure and keep self-sufficiency and independence. Therefore, the principal role of government is to encourage, expect and educate its citizens to seek, secure and keep self-sufficiency and independence. The test of a great government is its readiness and willingness to work its way out of a job…to shrink…not to grow!

Thomas Jefferson, our third president was pin point perfectly correct when he cautioned: ” Any government big enough to give you everything you want is big enough to take everything you have “. Socialism enslaves. And the enslaved are those who the totalitarian socialists feed upon. The ultimate end result is a world where every one lives in the same size and kind of house; where everyone wears the same kind of clothes; where everyone drives the same kind of car; where every one earns the exact same income etc. etc. et al! Not here; not now; not ever!

  11. To Mr. Dennis Stewart, you are brilliant. There is no better words to describe socialism and personal failures. You are spot on.

As for Karen Porter. I direct this to the handful of sheep that actually follow her. Please wise up. You follow a person that is only a legend in her own mind and will never be more than this.

If you knew Karen Porter, like some of us do, AND, if you were bright enough, you would cut all ties.

This, I direct to the patriotic, God-fearing Americans. If I were you, I would not allow her insane rants to bother me. She has issues, major issues.

I only follow her rants, because I happen to have a dog in the fight. Her hypocrisy in the area of money, wealth and capitalism is just plain disgusting.

To those of us who know her, we realize how twisted she is. The only way Karen can be counted on, is to pound on hate, sadness, cruelty, blame, hurt, worry, lies, deceit and complete misery.

  12. Remember that the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (USSR) was the mecca of Communism. Saying one is a Socialist is the same as saying one is a Communist.

  13. Karen Porter has written more than once that she is concerned about what her great grandchildren will think of her. If we are to assume that she ever has grandchildren, great grandchildren. They will be gravely concerned about her insanity being hereditary.

Karen thinks of herself as a pioneer. All the while, she is a mere, mild irritant, a blade of grass.

I take interest in her insane rants for reasons different from those of you that don’t really know her. Let me say, she is not worth the read. She has issues. She is a hypocrite and she will fade away. I guarantee you of that.

  16. Karen you are definitely in need of some serious help. Your view of America is very twisted! I have a question for you. If you don’t like it here so much, why not just move to another country?! Don’t change my country b/c your so unhappy here! Just leave! I’m sure Russia would be happy to take you in! But don’t try to change my country I am very happy here and do not wish to go anywhere else.

  22. Another Leftist, invoking the name of Jesus Christ in an attempt to wed Him to the State. It’s so sickening.

Civil Government operates from a position of power, force, and coercion, and exists to uphold the Law and punish evil-doers.

The mandates of Christ and the Gospel are for the CHURCH, the “called-out ones” who believe in and are submitted to Him as Lord – not the state. Jesus was not addressing Civil Government with “love your enemies,” “turn the other cheek,” “give him your cloak, also,” or any other such teachings.

It’s amazing to see who it really is that wants to marry the Church with the State, huh?
